1940’s Obsession & Inspiration

I have always loved the 1940’s… the hair, the make-up, the gorgeous silhouettes!

I just feel connected to that time. My grandparents were married in 1941, and my grandpa served in WWII. And since I didn’t know my great-grandparents, I feel like that was when the family I knew began.

Lately, I have been fantasizing over the gorgeous and intricate hairstyles of the 40’s, because for the first time in a decade, my hair is l-o-n-g, AND I have time in the morning to do it.

Here are some options I’ve been drooling over:

And lest you think that this is a new obsession of mine, I present to you, my 1940’s inspired wedding hair:

(Yes, yes, it’s grainy. I got married pre-digital copies.)

And one more photo for good measure.

Do you love my headpiece or what? And pin curls, hands down, are the best kind of curls to have.

1940 US Census logoWhy am I obsessing over the 40’s? Because we’re just a few short weeks away from the release of the 1940 US Census, and people that I KNOW are in it. There is a huge Community Project taking place right now to digitize the Census and make it available to everyone for free.

You can help the efforts by volunteering to index images, or you can sign up to become a 1940 US Census Blog Ambassador.

Oh, and did I mention that if you become a Blog Ambassador, that you become eligible to win amazing prizes? Because, you do. So sign up. Now. Click here.
