Distance for Davis fundraiser this week in Utah!

Davis Cox is a 14 year old student from Kaysville, Utah . In March of this year, he contracted a virus, resulting in severe aplastic anemia.

Once, a healthy football and baseball player, Davis now experiences life-threatening symptoms ranging from retinal and nose and gum bleeds, to fevers, severe bacterial infections, and a depleted immune system.

Affecting only three in one million Americans each year, aplastic anemia is a disease of the bone marrow. The marrow stops making enough red and white blood cells and platelets to sustain the body. This means that people with this disease are at risk for life threatening infections and bleeding.

Since April 2010, Davis has undergone more than 30 blood and platelet transfusions, numerous tests, and long hospital stays.  In June, a severe and life-threatening fungal infection invaded Davis’ sinus’ and he underwent 5 surgeries in 7 days to remove the diseased tissue and bone.

And now, this week at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, there is a fundraiser to help raise money for Davis’ family, and to help raise awareness of this life threatening disease.
