The door knob was conveniently reversed-some desperate mother must have done it before I lived there. It does work and I loved it! When I moved into our current home, I thought about doing it there, but quickly realized that there are NO locks on their doors. I had forgotten about this method---I should make a stop and Home Depot on my way home. "Look little ones...I brought you shiny new presents!" They do pretty good with calming down just by being in there. They usually never come out. They know they need to calm down, and I let them come out as soon as they can handle stuff without freaking out.<BR/><BR/>And yeah, our doorknobs were like that when we moved in, and the previous owners got stuck in one of the rooms - the WHOLE family!! I can't remember how they got out, I think they had to take something apart to get something little enough to shimmy the lock... Since we don't have bedrooms downstairs, we put a childproof lock on the inside of the guest bathroom door and let them have timeouts in there, too.<BR/><BR/>Unfortunately, when we would have guests over, there were the few that could not figure out the knob and would get locked in. A few minutes later, I went back to check on him, and he had LOCKED HIMSELF IN HIS ROOM. <BR/>I like your idea, I wish I had thought of it 10 years ago.<BR/>Be careful not to get yourself in a situation where you are in the room by yourself and your child locks you in.
